Wednesday, July 19, 2006 ::: PRESENT I hope her solo debut is going to be more exciting than the title sounds. Later this year Atlantic Records will release Present, the first solo album by Andrea Corr, the baby of the Corrs family, and for years the front woman of one of the most successful pop acts of the last ten years. Stylorouge have been commissioned to produce a promotional film to accompany the release of the album which will intersperse Andrea's observations on the making of the album with live performances of some of the key tracks, just on voice and piano. The album itself has been produced by Nellee Hooper, whose work includes classic tracks for Bjork, Soul ll Soul and U2 and countless chart-topping, dancefloor-filling remixes. source Although Stylorouge has produced some professional works for the Corrs, they've been doing their packaging and designing work ever since The Best Of release and it's all becoming a bit boring. Their designs are safe, but too safe that it's boring. Take a look at the artworks for Home, All The Way Home DVD and their recent single covers. All pretty nice looking, but quite bland to be honest. I didn't like the idea that The Corrs are taking a break as a band while Andrea ventures into a solo music career in the first place... then the album title that's just 'meh'... and the fact that she's still under Atlantic, the record label that's been giving the Corrs minimal, almost zero support ever since the In Blue era - why on earth is she still signed to Atlantic?!?!?! And her teaming with Stylorouge again for promotion and packaging... urgh. isn't this supposed to be super exciting for a Corrs fan like me? I don't want her to become another Tara Blaise. Isn't she supposed to have a fresh start as a solo artist? She should be working with a totally different team of people and develop a totally different style that reminds people she's now a solo star but not 'the lead singer in the band who's releasing an album FOR the band?' I don't want to see her releasing an album with plenty of good materials but all wasted just because of Atlantic's infamous half assed promotion. I thought they were disappointed in Atlantic and their relationship with the label was over after releasing Home, but apparently that's not true. Perhaps I'll have to wait till her album material leaks. Hopefully she's making some good music. I'm hoping for a more electro sound, and am counting on the producer... but I guess I can only keep my fingers crossed. Meanwhile this is the special site for her short film 'The Bridge'.
